A Love For Books Day 11: Author Feature: Courtney Stevens

Hi everyone! Today is day 11 for A Love for Books blog event! Hope everyone is enjoying the event so far! Now today I have the up most honor of having Courtney Stevens here for an interview! Court is one of my biggest inspirations. She's nothing but sweet and kindhearted to everyone. I love talking to her and I simply cannot wait to read her book Faking Normal! You can ask anyone that I've been dying for this book for months! Not long now before I can get my hands on it! Now let's take a look at the interview!

1. When you hear "Valentine's Day", what do you immediately think of?

Over-Priced Roses.

2. Are you someone who really enjoys V-day or are you just kind of 'eh' about it?

I guess I’m kind of "eh" but I'm not "eh" about love. Just about holidays that seem to make 1/2 the population spend too much money and the other 1/2 feeling sad because they're not the other 1/2 . I vote we love each other like Valentine's Day is every day.

3. Do you prefer flowers or chocolates? I personally want chocolates because hello? It's chocolate!

Flowers, but I’d rather have them the other 364 days of the year. I’m weird because I don’t eat much chocolate.

4. When it comes to romance in books, do you prefer the sappy love stories or the more deep and passionate stories?

It deeps on my mood. There is a time for sappy and a time for depth. I think all stories have the potential to meet a need. If I’m having a bad day, I’d go sappy with a safe ending. On a good day, I like diving into something deep and passionate.

5. During the time of love and romance (a.k.a. February and V-day) are there any romance books, or books in general, or like to read?

I think Anna and the French Kiss is a lovely and perfect February read.

6. Besides your own, are there any book boys you find swoony?

(Let’s assume I’m younger and it’s not weird for me to answer that.)
He’s not classically swoony, but I love Ed Kennedy in I am the Messenger. Then, there’s Roran Garrowsson from the Eragon series who is one of my favorite action guys. I have to admit, if I were still in high school, I’d be chasing a guy like Wesley Ayers in The Archive. (Because, yeah, I like guyliner.)

7. Do you have any traditions or things you like to do on or around V-day, besides going out with someone?

Nothing in particular. The closest thing I have to a tradition is my older brother usually checks on me.

8. What's the cheesiest thing that's happened to you or a person you know on V-day?

I can’t think of anything cheesy. Most of my Valentine’s Day experiences have been very mundane. (Which makes me think, I also really swooned over Jace in the Mortal Instruments series.) When I was in high school, a boy I went to Europe with (who lived in another city four hours away) sent me yellow roses. I thought it was the most romantic thing in the world. Is that cheesy or amazing?

9. In romance books, what is something you look for or want to see the most in it?

I think the sexiest thing in the world is when a boy asks a girl for permission to hold her hand or kiss her. I’d like to see more of that. This is something I usually put into my own work, because I want my guys to be guys I would date if I were that age.

I love romance, but I appreciate it when romance and sex are not synonymous. I’m not a prude or naïve; sexual experiences are a part of the young adulthood but I appreciate it when authors represent the whole spectrum. When I see that represented equally in a book, I think every girl or guy who is seventeen and hasn’t been kissed … gets their wings.

10. Who are some of your favorite romance authors, they can be YA or adult or both? :)

I have a hard time determining who qualifies as a “romance author” as I don’t read very many romance books, but here are a few folks who can write some steamy mcsteamerson.
Adult: Janet Evanovich and Molly Harper
Young Adult: Katie McGarry and Myra McEntire

11. Any plans for Valentine's day? (Not to get too personal. Promise I'm not a stalker!)

Right now, the only thing on my calendar for February 14th is to pick up my race packet for the 15k I’m running the next day. I might schedule a little freak out that I’m one day away from being able to count Faking Normal’s release on my fingers.

Aww don't you guys just love her? I sure do! And I certainly love this interview as well! Hope you all enjoyed it!

Thank you so so much Courtney for stopping by! It's a huge honor to have you!!

Don't forget everyone to stop by again tomorrow for more fun features! I hope everyone has enjoyed this vent so far and will continue to enjoy the event!

Courtney was kind enough to donate some "Channel Your Brave" bracelets for the giveaway! I have four and I can tell you they're awesome and I love them. You can enter to win some bracelets or an order of Faking Normal!

  1. Oo such a fun interview! I'm kind of "eh" about Valentine's Day too. Isn't that what anniversaries are for? But I suppose it's not a bad holiday to have an excuse to spend time with your loved one. For me, I just find anything even remotely cheesy to be a "turn off" but I do love flowers and chocolate, no doubt! Great interview, once again! And I LOVED Faking Normal! :)
