Fight For The Future Author Event plus Giveaway

On Sunday, February 9th, I went to the Fight For the Future Event held at Mysterious Galaxy in Redondo Beach. The authors in attendance were Margaret Stohl, Marie Lu, Meagan Spooner, and Amie Kaufman from Australia! That's the farthest any author has come to visit here that I've met! This event was just awesome plain and simple! Amie and Margaret were absolutely funny. Put the two of them combined and they had everyone laughing.
They started off by introducing themselves. Also, the man that did the audiobook of These Broken Stars was there. I haven't heard his voice but he is VERY good looking! *Hubba hubba* I just might have to go and buy it now. ;D

They spoke of their new books. Marie has a new series coming out this fall called The Young Elite. Amie vouched for it saying she loved this book. She said it's like The X-Men series but Magneto is the good guy.
Meagan said the final book in her trilogy, Lark Ascending is coming out later this year.
Amie said the second book in the Starbound trilogy will be a companion novel called The Shattered World, coming out later this year. She is also co-writing a new book, Illuminae, with author Jay Kristoff coming out early next year. Marie read their book and said it was amazing! She said it's like Battle Star Galactica.
Margaret is back with Kami and has their spin-off series, Dangerous Creatures. It's coming out May 17th. Then in July her second novel, Idols comes out in July. She had another ARC of it, but gave it to another girl =(

Someone asked how they write together. How do they get along if one disagrees with something? Amie then said, "So what your asking is if we fight?" Ha! Amie said they get along pretty well. They've known each other for a few years now and have even lived together for a while, so they've grown accustomed to each others personalities. They consider each other more as sisters rather than friends. My sis went with me so we know what they mean hehe. Although one is a planner and the other is a pantser, they learned to work around each others schedules. Meagan wrote Lilac's character and Amie wrote Tarver's character so it also made it easier that way too. When it came down to something that they really disagreed on, instead going with one or the other's idea, they went with Plan C, to come up with a new idea.
Margaret said it's easy writing with Kami. Sometimes they end up finishing each others sentences. It works very well for them. What made it hard for Margaret was when she wrote her own book. She did not know how to separate her voice. That got her started writing with her Feelings. She's a very emotional person and had to let out all the FEELS!

The next question asked was seeing as how they are adults, how do they write as teenagers?
Amie said she's always felt like her inner 17 year old teen. She feels she speaks like a teen and likes to do crazy things. Sometimes she worries that people will think she's weird with the way she acts sometimes.
Marie said she's always been drawn to the young adult genre and feels most comfortable writing YA. Like I said before, Margaret said she was writing for her teen kids at the time. Her daughter didn't believe she could write a teen book at her age. She basically wrote Beautiful Creatures as revenge to her daughter lol.

Who is their favorite character they wrote?
Meagan said seeing as there were only two characters in the book, she would have to say Lilac because she wrote her. She liked that although Lilac was not kind in the beginning of the book, Lilac became more kind, open, becoming her own person.
Amie wanted to know who Marie's favorite character was besides June and Day? Unfortunately, I forgot the answer. I only remember her saying that that character was only supposed to be in one scene, yet for some reason that character kept coming back. She couldn't get rid of her which ended up being a good thing. Margaret said it's sometimes hard to get rid of side characters especially when one of them now has its own story to tell. She said she loves Ridley dearly, but getting into her mind set was a bit challenging at first. She said Ridley knows she's not squeaky clean like Lena. She has baggage and lays it straight out in Dangerous Creatures. Margaret said Ridley has a lot coming to her and Karma is a bitch. Can't wait to read it!

Lastly, it was time for the signing. We were last in line since we weren't in any hurry. Plus everyone else rushed to the line. Margaret is so cool because she actually went out into the line and was signing everyone's books! She volunteered to take pictures with everyone. I thought that was so sweet of her! At one point she was even sitting in the audience chairs signing mine and my sisters books. My sis spoke with her a little while I stood there frozen lol. Amie and Meagan were really friendly too. Amie recognized my name from Twitter, but I have a feeling she was referring to the other Stacee LOL! Oh well. This was a wonderful experience at an awesome indie bookstore. I'm so glad I got the chance to meet these wonderful authors!
That's Me! The other picture is My sister and Margaret Stohl

To celebrate Valentine's Day, Kayla and I are giving away a signed copy of These Broken Stars with a poster! To see how much of a love connection Lilac and Tarver had you can take a look at Kayla's review here.

Now there are a few rules sadly. I can only send this out in the US due to high shipping costs. I'm sorry. You have to be at least 13 years old, and once the book leaves my hands and ships, I cannot unfortunately replace the book. Also, please no cheating. I check for cheaters and if you cheat I will eliminate your entries. Once the winner has been notified, you will have 48 hours to reply or else I pick another winner. Thanks again and good luck!
